Attending AGO?

We look forward to the opportunity to visit with many of you at the biennial national conference of The American Guild of Organists in Kansas City. This conference is always a highlight for us!

Be sure to attend our reading session on Friday from 11 AM – 11:45 AM in the Empire Room.

Summer Music

As summer begins, we know that picking music can be difficult. Choirs thin out, attendance drops, but there are plenty of opportunities for great music to be created and enjoyed. Here at Augsburg Fortress we have a variety of pieces to help you create a meaningful, artistic worship experience. We’ve also included collections for funerals and weddings that might be useful for any ceremonies happening this summer.

Summer Solstice: Settings for Organ

Roberta Rowland-Raybold has given us eleven hymn settings and two free compositions for the summer seasons of Pentecost and Trinity. Published April 3, 2018, this new volume includes hymns settings for “Come, Join the Dance of Trinity” and “Spirit of Gentleness” among many others. View the Tune Index

Gospel Acclamations for Summer

Choral gospel acclamations for Time after Pentecost, Lectionary 8 through 22 with Lesser Festivals. This volume contains one acclamation per Sunday or festival day in the church year for years A, B, C. All acclamations in this collection can be performed in unison with keyboard accompaniment. The Augsburg Organ Library is a multi-volume collection that reflects the twentieth century renewal of the organ and its music. Wedding Settings for Organ

Although intended originally for use in weddings, most of the pieces in this collection are based on hymns that will be used throughout the year, making this a versatile volume. Edwin Childs has a nice touch with these organ preludes and processionals, giving them interest but without too much difficulty. View a sample.

For All the Saints: Hymn Preludes for Funerals – Volume One

Those in grief frequently turn to the hymns of the Church as a source of comfort. This collection of ten hymn preludes is specifically designed to feature commonly-sung and commonly-requested hymns. Most of the settings are extended but can easily be shortened to fit the occasion. Useful throughout the year as well.  Volume Two and Volume Three are also available. View the title and tune index.

In Heaven Above: Piano Music for Funerals and Memorials

In Heaven Above is a collection of mostly hymn-based piano music particularly well suited to use in funerals and memorial services, but with many other uses throughout the year. Written in accessible styles and in easy to moderate difficulty range, this volume will be used often. Gifted composers like Bert Carlson, Anne Krentz Organ, David Cherwien, Michael Hassell, Nancy Raabe, Mark Sedio, and many others have contributed 75 arrangements that will enhance services of many kinds.View the table of contents.
