Social Media – The New (but probably not Final) Frontier
Northern Illinois Synod Boundaries Workshop
Bishop Jeffrey Clements and the Bishop’s Task Force on Boundaries invite all Rostered Leaders and Professional Church Workers to this year’s Boundary Workshop on Thursday, November 17, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Hawkins Hospitality Center at Lutheran Outdoor Ministries Center, Oregon, IL. This Workshop is being offered as part of the Northern Illinois Synod’s continuing commitment to regular Boundary Training, per the Synod Council resolution of January 2014.
This year’s workshop will primarily focus on keeping appropriate and professional boundaries in the area of Social Media. This workshop will also include a short review of the basic boundaries important for all Rostered Leaders and Professional Church Workers. It will be led by Pastor Sarah Wilson, M.Div., M.S.W. Pastor Wilson is pastor at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hebron, and also has been trained to be an ELCA Boundary Workshop Leader by Barbara Keller, the consultant to the ELCA for the Prevention of Sexual Misconduct.
Information and discussion at the workshops will focus on boundaries with parishioners, volunteers, and staff members both face-to-face, but especially when using Facebook, twitter, snapchat, Instagram, etc., etc. Participants will receive handouts that can be used both personally and in the parish setting.
The cost of the Workshop is $50 which includes light breakfast, lunch and snacks; and copies of the handouts and supplemental materials. If this amount would prevent a leader from attending, please contact Deaconess Cheryl Erdmann, AiM, staff liaison to the Task Force, at 815-964-9934 or email@example.com. The size of the group is limited to 35 participants, so please register soon.
