Among the eight values statements of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America are these:
“We are a church that belongs to Christ. There is a place for you here.”
“We are a Church that believes Jesus is God’s ‘yes’ to us. Our lives can be a ‘Yes’ to others.”
“We are a church that believes God is calling us into the world – together.”
“We are a church that rolls up our sleeves and gets to work.”
Rolling up our sleeves and getting to work means we are intentional about our commitments, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” [Luke 10:27]; and, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” [Matthew 28:19-20] The Outreach Committee sets funds aside for congregations wanting to make disciples through our proclamation that “there is a place for you here.”
