Mary Streufert serves as the director for the Justice for Women program at the ELCA churchwide organization in Chicago, where she works with others to develop and promote theological and social analysis, discussion, and action that seeks to address sexism in church and society. Because what we believe and proclaim about God, Jesus, and creation through our theology shapes the way we live, the Justice for Women program addresses social issues that affect everyone, boys and girls, men and women, through theological engagement. Born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, Streufert was educated in the Midwest and on the West coast. Prior to joining churchwide, Streufert held a Lilly Fellowship in Humanities and Theology at Valparaiso University, where she taught the Christian tradition, Lutheran theology, and global feminist theologies. She has published articles on Christology and is the editor of a book from Fortress Press, Transformative Lutheran Theologies. Three young sons keep her and her spouse busy.
