On Sunday, September 24, 4 pm, an ecumenical service will be held at Augustana Lutheran Church in Andover to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. It will include portions of the Common Prayer Service compiled by the Liturgical Task Force of the Lutheran-Roman Catholic Commission on Unity.
The ecumenical commemoration of the 500 years of Reformation reflects in its basic liturgical structure this theme of thanksgiving, repentance and common witness and communion.
The message will be given by Sister Marilyn Ring, who lives at St. Mary Monastery in Rock Island, and served for several years as a chaplain at Augustana College.
The liturgist will be Pastor Michel Clark from Knoxville, Assistant to the Bishop of the Northern Illinois Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
An ecumenical choir will be led by Steve Steely, choir director at First Lutheran Church in Moline and pastoral musician at St Pius Roman Catholic Church in Rock Island.
The organist will be Chris Nelson, organist and director of music at St Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport.
Light refreshments will be served following the service.
