Grace and peace to you from God our Father and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is with sadness that I report to you the death of Rev. Peter M. Holmer on Monday, May 7, 2018, in Naperville, Illinois.
Pastor Holmer was born May 9, 1950, in Oak Park, Illinois, and married Linda Sue Koenigsberg on August 16, 1975. Pastor Holmer graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois in 1972. He later graduated from Yale Divinity School, New Haven, Connecticut in 1976.
Pastor Holmer was ordained May 26, 1976, by the Lutheran Church in America and began his ministry at Faith Lutheran Church, Glen Ellyn, Illinois, from 1976-1979. Next, he was called to serve at First Lutheran Church, Kirkland, Illinois, from 1979-1988. Next, he was called to serve at St. John Lutheran Church, Joliet, Illinois, from 1988-2017. He retired in July 2017.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 12, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Church, 2650 Plainfield Road, Joliet, Illinois. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 14, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Joliet, Illinois.Rostered ministers are invited to vest. The color of the day is white.
As the church we offer our sympathy to his family and friends and because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, we rejoice in God’s promise of eternal life, comfort, and hope.
