A special 150th anniversary service will be held in Andover on Sunday, November 18, 3 pm, to commemorate the move in 1868 of Sunday worship services from the Jenny Lind Chapel (JLC) to the “new” (Augustana Lutheran) church. The service will start at the JLC and process to the “new” church, singing along the way. Persons unable to start at the JLC are invited to go to Augustana Church, where the opening service at the JLC will be broadcast.

Pastor Reed Pedersen from Augustana Church will be dressed in “old school” traditional Swedish minister attire as he leads the service. A hymn will be sung in Swedish at the JLC by the church’s senior choir; and, the scripture readings used in the 1868 service will be read. Holy Communion will be celebrated during this service. Neighboring daughter congregations are also invited to participate in the service. Light refreshments will be served following the service.

SONS & DAUGHTERS OF THUNDER DOCUMENTARY TO BE SHOWN IN ANDOVER

The Andover showing of the documentary, Sons & Daughters of Thunder, has been set by Kelly & Tammy Rundle, the director and producer from Fourth Wall Films. The documentary, which was partially filmed at the Jenny Lind Chapel, will be shown on Saturday, March 30, 2019, 7:30 pm, at Augustana Church in Andover. This will be a benefit, with donations going to the Jenny Lind Chapel. The premier of this film will be held at the Putnam National Geographic Theater in Davenport on Saturday, March 9, 6:30 pm. It will also run on PBS stations.

Based on a play, Sons & Daughters of Thunder tells the unforgettable true story of the beginning of the end of slavery in America. In 1834, eighteen days of student-sponsored debates were held at Lane Seminary in Cincinnati, OH, (this is the segment filmed at the Jenny Lind Chapel). This shocking oratory sparked intense controversy and awakened a young Harriet Beecher Stowe (author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin) to the realities of slavery. Fourth Walls Films is an award-winning and Regional Emmy® nominated independent film and video production company, formerly located in Los Angeles, and now based in the Quad Cities.
