Reconstruction Update

As you probably know, the synod website was hacked in late October. Below are the updates that were given in a special e-alert and on the front of after it was back.

Thank you so much for your patience through this process. There are still many links that are not working, but I continue to work on them. Please contact me for anything you need.

Down to only 200 broken links (from nearly 1000). Broken links are still lined through to save you time from chasing bad links. Please contact me for anything you need.

The website slowly continues to get back to normal. Honestly, there are more broken links and lost content than I originally thought, and it is taking me longer to fix than I thought it would. Thanks to those who have contacted me for specific content. I am happy to send you anything that you cannot find on the site yet. Bad links are still lined-through, in hopes of saving you time following them. Please contact me for anything you need.

While the site is torn up, I instituted a new events calendar, to hopefully make finding information on upcoming events easier and more intuitive. Note the new events list here on the front page and the new calendar on the Calendar page. A new Upcoming Events list will also premiere in the next Walking Together.

Synod emails are working fine again. The synod website is being reconstructed as quickly as possible. Most of the broken links are still lined-through to save you time from clicking bad links. Thank you for your patience and understanding. As always, if you cannot find something that you need, please contact me.

Part of the process to make the synod site safer unexpectedly caused a certificate error for synod email. Synod emails are currently not working. We expect the situation will be quickly rectified on Monday. In the meantime, to contact me, please use my alternate email address

Most of the broken links on the synod website are temporarily lined-through to save you time from clicking bad links. I am fixing them all as quickly as possible. If you urgently need a specific resource, please contact me, and I will push it to the top of the fix-it list, or I can send it to you.

The Northern Illinois Synod website was hacked, and pages were added advertising casinos and other such things. In order to comprehensively clean the site and restore it in a more secure way, the site was temporarily taken down and is currently in the process of being fixed.

During the reconstruction, pages will not look right and many links will not work. Please know I am doing my best to get the pages and content back up. Your patience will be greatly appreciated.  If you try to get to a page and cannot find it, please shoot me an email, so I can be sure that it is on my list to fix.

As always, I appreciate you letting me know when a link is broken or anything else is wrong with the site. It’s a huge site with many resources, and it takes the eyes of all of us to keep it up to date.

While our site is down – visit the Synod Facebook page for news and updates. Also, remember that our churchwide site ( is bursting with excellent resources. If you have synod-specific questions, please call the synod office at 815-964-9934 (Rockford) or 309-794-4004 (Rock Island).

In the next issue of Walking Together, I’ll update you on the state of the website. In the meantime, a few extra prayers would be appreciated! 🙂

Please don’t ever hesitate to contact me with web updates, questions, requests, etc.

Yours in Christ,

Karin Graddy, AIM
Communication Director
