“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Part of our commission from Jesus to make disciples is to provide a safe place for all Christians (especially our children and youth) to learn about the love of God in Christ. I think of this as our fulfillment of the baptismal covenant that we promise whenever someone is baptized in our congregations.
Because of our commitment to being a safe place for all young people, the Northern Illinois Synod, ELCA, offers half-day workshops for all those who teach, mentor, lead, and chaperone children and youth in our congregations. These workshops are offered free of charge and are led by individuals from our Synod who have been trained to lead the program “Safeguarding God’s Children,” a program designed by the Episcopal Church USA.
All materials received at the workshop are free to be copied by the participants for use in their own congregations.
Places, dates, and times of upcoming workshops:
- Mon., Oct. 26, 6–9 p.m. at All Saints Lutheran, 624 Luther Drive, Byron (Full Workshop. “For Parents and Congregations” and “For Ministries”)
Registration is open now at nisynod.org/safeguarding-gods-children.
Please talk with your members who work with children/youth in any capacity and encourage them to register today!
