Lutheran Disaster Response provides immediate and long-term disaster relief
On Sept. 28, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami hit parts of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. More than 1,200 people have died and the death toll is expected to rise. Lutheran Disaster Response is providing immediate relief through longstanding partnerships in Indonesia, and it will continue to provide long-term support.
In the U.S., Lutheran Disaster Response is coordinating with synods and affiliated social ministry organizations to provide long-term support in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.
Give to Lutheran Disaster Response to assist people affected by these recent disasters.

ELCA Strategy on HIV and AIDS survey
When the ELCA Strategy on HIV and AIDS was approved in 2009, it recognized the ELCA’s call to faithfully and effectively participate in the larger global and domestic response. Knowing that many throughout the ELCA are engaged in different capacities around HIV and AIDS, this survey will gather more information about the ways your ministries have in the past, are currently or will be engaging. Please consider taking a few minutes to share your feedback. Participate in the survey.
Subscribe to Three Sides podcast
Three Sides is a new monthly podcast featuring stories from the ELCA. As a church that believes God is calling us into the world – together, Three Sides will share diverse voices from across this church. Typically, it’s said there are two sides to every story. Support Lutheran World Federation’s Augusta Victoria Hospital
Media reports say the United States will not continue to fund the Lutheran World Federation-operated Augusta Victoria Hospital in Jerusalem. ELCA members can help by giving a gift that will go toward the ELCA’s ongoing, annual support of the hospital to prevent interruptions to the critical, life-saving care given there. Give today at community.ELCA.org/augusta-victoria-hospital.
With the support of ELCA congregations and members, a new class of students, future pastors and young-adult missionaries are beginning studies or service over the next couple of months, including:
- 78 young adults embarking on a year of international service with the Young Adults in Global Mission program;
- eight women from our global companion churches beginning studies to pursue four-year degrees at ELCA colleges and universities through the International Women Leaders initiative, bringing the total number of scholarships to 27; and
- 260 students with more than $2.5 million in seminary scholarships through the ELCA Fund for Leaders.
Your continued support of the campaign empowers students, young missionaries and seminarians – the future of the ELCA and our companion churches around the world – with these life-changing experiences and education. Thank you!
