Dear Northern Illinois Synod singing members,
As you know, this year marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, and we as Lutherans will honor this important occasion on Sunday, October 29, with a special synod-wide Reformation Ordination Worship and Celebration. This service will take place at 4:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church (607 – 10th Avenue) in Mendota, Illinois.
All singers are invited and encouraged to sing in the festival choir. The rehearsal will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. Please let me know if you plan to participate so that the logistics (where we will sing, number of chairs, music, etc.) can be worked out ahead of time.
Below is the information about how to receive the music for the service. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or text me at (815) 988-3218.
The music for this service includes:
- *God Alone Be Praised AD LUCEM – Briehl/Highben – Please text or email me and I will send this music to you.
- A Mighty Fortress setting, Nancy Raabe – Please text or email me and I will send this music to you.
- Halle, Halle, Hallelujah WOV 612 – The choir will sing the verses. I will have this music ready for you at the rehearsal on Sunday, October 29.
* When received, this music can be copied for the Reformation service only. If you plan to use it in your congregation, if you are not a member of the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, you must secure permission to copy.
Martin Luther had a profound impact on our worship, and, being a musician himself, he knew the value and importance of music in worship. I am looking forward to directing the choir, and I hope that you will consider and consider singing in the festival choir for this exciting event.
