The Freedom of a Christian Discussion

Quad Cities church and community members are invited to a Three-part discussion series on the The Freedom of a Christian by Martin Luther.

These sessions will take place on Wednesdays – October 11, 18, 25  11.30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the Wilson Faculty Center, adjacent to the new Brunner Theatre.

A soup and sandwich lunch will be offered free of charge to participants.  Please notify Connie Huntley at conniehuntley@augustana.edu to let us know how many to plan on for lunch.

Discussions of this very famous statement by Martin Luther will be led by Augustana Chaplains Kristen Glass Perez and Richard Priggie, and by Dr. Jason Mahn, director of Augustana’s new Presidential Center for Faith and Learning.

It would be best to read the statement before joining the discussion.  It is not long, and there is an excellent new study edition by Timothy Wengert which you can purchase from Amazon.com or elsewhere.

Plan to attend also a Four-part book discussion on Radical Lutherans, Lutheran Radicals, ed. Jason Mahn  (Cascade Books, Eugene, Oregon, 2017). Mondays – Nov. 13, 20, 27 and Dec. 4,  4:30 – 5:30 p.m. in the Wilson Faculty Center. Free food and drinks will be served

Each week the group will discuss a chapter of the book, so reading in advance is suggested. Discussions will be led by the book’s author, Dr. Mahn. Books can be purchased on Amazon or in The Augustana College Bookstore. Reservations are also requested for this second book discussion, again by emailing conniehuntley@augustana.edu.
