We’ve got a lot going on in May

Those of us with mothers or who are mothers know that Mother’s Day falls this month on May 10. Many in our midst are sensitive to the fact that the day is not universally celebrated, and here’s why. Monica (May 4), mother of St. Augustine, and Helena (May 21), mother of Constantine, are observed this month as is Rachel’s Day (see below). And, lest we forget, the Ascension of Our Lord is May 14, Memorial Day, May 25, Amnesty International Day, May 28, and, oh yes, Star Wars Day, May 4.

EXECUTIVE BOARD CONCLUDES SPRING BUSINESS MEETING

The Women of the ELCA executive board met April 24-26 in suburban Chicago where they brainstormed the 2017 triennial gathering theme, met new staff, and acted on referrals from the 2014 triennial convention. Read more.

SPRING ISSUE OF INTERCHANGE IS OUT & AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD

The Spring issue of Interchange should have arrived at your church or home doorstep by now. Interchange is mailed to every ELCA congregation so please check with your church administrator to see if it arrived. It is also available in Spanish.

RACHEL’S DAY IS FIRST SUNDAY IN MAY: HOW WILL YOU OBSERVE IT?

Rachel’s Day is a time set aside to mourn the loss of our children and to renounce the forces of violence and fear. It is observed by Women of the ELCA annually on the first Sunday in May, though it can be observed any time of the year. Read more.
