Augsburg Fortress News

June 28, 2016

Dear Partner in Ministry,

Our calling at Augsburg Fortress is to develop and provide top-quality resources to support the ministries of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We are renewing that commitment as we announce a new family of Lutheran-oriented learning resources, support for the ongoing revitalization of worship, an improved web presence, and a new expression of our mission.

Lutheran Learning Resources   Later this year, we will launch Together by Grace, a new family of resources designed to help congregations explore and extend the gifts of a Lutheran calling to Christian faith and mission, as we approach the 500th anniversary of the Reformation’s beginnings in 1517. This family will include adult group studies, engaging resources for children and youth, and new Small Catechism editions. A new Book of Faith Study on the Gospel of Matthew is also now available.

Ongoing Renewal of Worship   In this tenth anniversary year of the publication of Evangelical Lutheran Worship, new resources include More Days for Praise, a guidebook to the people of faith remembered on the ELCA calendar; two new Worship Matters handbooks, for intercessors and hospitality ministers; and extensive content additions to our recently revamped worship planning site,   In August, we will release the new, developed with both web experts and people like you. Finding what you’re looking for will be easier than ever. We’ve improved the focus on the most useful, best quality resources to support Lutheran ministries, and we’ve streamlined the transaction experience. It will work great on tablets and mobile devices too.

1517 Media   The Publishing House of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America—the official name of our parent organization—will now receive the new “doing business as” name of 1517 Media. Augsburg Fortress is one of three familiar publishing units within 1517 Media:

  • Augsburg Fortress serves Evangelical Lutheran churches in North America with resources to support worship, faith formation, and the congregation’s life.
  • Fortress Press supports students and teachers across the ecumenical and interreligious landscape with resources for the classroom or for individual study.
  • Sparkhouse creates Christian faith formation resources for children and youth in congregations and, through Sparkhouse Family, at home.

Our new parent identity expresses our rootedness in the Lutheran tradition and the gifts of the Reformation while highlighting our attention—within all three publishing units—to a wide range of current and future media resources for the church, classroom, and home.

As your partners in the gospel, we appreciate your continued support as, together with you, we communicate the liberating grace of God in an ever-changing world. We are always here to serve you and support your ministries.
