December Events at Jenny Lind Chapel in Andover

49TH ANNUAL JOY OF CHRISTMAS WITH AUGUSTANA COLLEGE

Wednesday, December 4, 7:30 pm – Students and faculty from Augustana College join the community for this beautiful service of worship and music that starts at Augustana Lutheran Church in Andover. The Christmas story will be read in several different languages. 

The service concludes with a procession to the Jenny Lind Chapel, which is illuminated by 100 candles, and where Holy Communion will be celebrated to the strains of familiar Christmas carols. The message will be given by Steve Bahls, president of Augustana College. Refreshments will be served in Luther Hall immediately after the service.

30TH ANNUAL ANDOVER CHRISTMAS WALK

Saturday, December 7, 4:45-8:00 pm – Andover Lake Park, Legion Building, and Jenny Lind Chapel.  Featuring soup supper, tree lighting ceremony, a park filled with Christmas displays, & instrumental & choral Christmas music at the Chapel from 6:30-8:00 pm.  Details at andovertourism.com.

COMMUNITY CANDLELIGHT CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE

Tuesday, December 24, 11:00 pm – Candlelight, carols & Holy CommunionThe Chapel, constructed in the early 1850s, is named for the celebrated Swedish singer, Jenny Lind, who gave a generous donation to Pastor Lars Paul Esbjörn, leader of the Swedish immigrants to Illinois.  It became the mother church for hundreds of other churches of the Augustana Lutheran Church in America.  The lower level houses a museum highlighting the Swedish immigration and ancestry of the Augustana Synod.  The Chapel is a ministry of the Northern Illinois Synod.  The web site is jennylindchapel.org.
