Grace and peace to you from God our Father and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is with sadness that I report to you the death of the Rev. Howard W. Jacobson on Friday, November 29, 2019.
Pastor Jacobson was born August 8, 1929, in Waterford, Wisconsin, and married Lois Sand on July 18, 1965. Pastor Jacobson graduated from Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, in 1961. He later graduated from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1965.
Pastor Jacobson was ordained June 13, 1965 by the Lutheran Church in America and began his ministry at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Elliott, North Dakota, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and West Fairview Lutheran Church, Englevale, North Dakota from 1965-1967. Next, he was called to serve St. John’s Lutheran Church, Creston, Illinois, from 1967-1977. Next, he was called to serve at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bethune, Colorado from 1977-1982. His final call was to serve Trinity Lutheran Church, DeKalb, Illinois, from 1982-1994. Pastor Jacobson retired in 1994.
In his retirement, Pastor Jacobson’s great love for the church continued as he served as an interim pastor in congregations within the Northern Illinois Synod.
A Memorial Service will be held at Norway Lutheran Church in Wind Lake, Wisconsin at a time to be determined.
As the church we offer our sympathy to his family and friends and because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, we rejoice in God’s promise of eternal life, comfort, and hope.
Walking with you,
Bishop Jeffrey Clements
