First, We Give of Ourselves is a three-year stewardship response program designed for congregations that wish to help members grow in their understanding of stewardship as a faith and discipleship practice. The theme verse for this program is found in 2 Corinthians 8:5. The Apostle Paul in describing the generosity of the Macedonian Christians says: “…and this, not merely as we expected, they gave themselves first to the Lord…”
The intent of First, We Give of Ourselves is that it might assist congregations to repackage the discussion of stewardship, from one that understands stewardship simply as a fund raising activity to fulfill the budget, to one that is centered in and through God’s abundant grace in Christ.
First, We Give of Ourselves has three yearly themes which seek to move the conversation of stewardship from bill paying to gift sharing, from scarcity to abundance. The yearly themes are: Giving in Grace, Giving in Gratitude, and Giving in Generosity.
Online planning workshops are available for Year One, Two, and Three of First, We Give of Ourselves and can be viewed at your convenience. Hopefully, the workshops can be of assistance as you make plans for implementing the program in your congregation.
Remember to be creative and that stewardship is fun!
