Freeport, IL – Prince of Peace Lutheran Church gives thanks and praise to God for calling forth a new pastor to lead their parish. In their almost 60 years of service to God’s Kingdom, five pastors have served at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Their last fulltime, permanent pastor left in January of 2018 and they are overjoyed to have called their sixth pastor, Rev. Karen E. Tews. She will be installed with a festive service of Holy Communion on March 24 at 2 pm. The Rev. Jeffrey Clements, Bishop of the Northern Illinois Synod will preside and preach. Rostered leaders are invited to vest and process. The color of the day is purple. There will be a reception immediately following the service in the church’s Fellowship Hall. All are welcome to celebrate with them on this joyous day!
Prince of Peace Lutheran Church began as a mission church back in 1960 having its first worship service that year on September 11 at the Veteran’s Memorial Home (which is now the Four Seasons). The church established its own worship space in 1962, dedicating the building at their Christmas Eve services on December 23. That building has been through two additional construction phases (adding a sanctuary in 1980 and then again another sanctuary in 2001) as well as a full building renovation in 2016. Prince of Peace Lutheran Church strives to be the hands, feet and heart of Christ in their community as shown through their acts of service, their benevolence both locally and globally, and through their love and acceptance of all people.
Prince of Peace is located at 2700 W. Stephenson Street, across from Liberty Village. For more information, please contact the church office at 815-232-4911.
