Short Bio of Peg Lehman

In Peg Lehman’s long career as a folk singer, recording artist, and music educator, she has toured the country, been featured at 20 national Song and Story Fests, and appeared on National Public Radio. With her expressive voice and unusual Appalachian instruments, the autoharp and mountain dulcimer, Peg engages audiences of all ages to sing together and be uplifted by her music. Her recordings feature songs that tell stories, celebrate life and family, and promote peace.

For nine years Peg was a Ravinia Festival teaching artist, partnering with teachers to create 15-week music residencies at inner-city Chicago Public Schools. For the last 2 years, she has served as the admin at Congregation Kneseth Israel, Elgin’s synagogue. Peg has lived in Elgin for more than 40 years and is an active, long-time member of the Highland Avenue Church of the Brethren. In 2001 she was honored with a Partner in Peace award by Elgin’s Community Crisis Center, in recognition of her 14 years of volunteer service to child victims of domestic violence. As a native New Yorker, Peg currently enjoys leading small groups of women on an annual New York Adventure, a tailor-made, 5-day cultural tour of New York City.
