To the Rostered Ministers, Vicars, Interns, and SAMs of the Northern Illinois Synod
August 3, 2021
Dear friends in Christ,
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is with sadness that I report to you the death of the Rev. Dr. Robert E. Linstrom on Friday, July 30, 2021.
Pastor Linstrom was born August 10, 1927, in Hershey, Nebraska and married Marcene Larson on June 25, 1955. He graduated from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas in 1951. He later graduated from the Augustana Seminary in Rock Island (now Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago) in 1955.
Pastor Linstrom was ordained June 19, 1955, by the Augustana Lutheran Church, a predecessor church body of the LCA and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Pastor Linstrom served congregations in Proctor, MN; Gary, IN; Richmond, IN; Elgin, Crystal Lake, Morris, Rockford, and Cary, all in Illinois. He served as the Secretary of the Indiana-Kentucky Synod for 17 years. He retired in 1992.
In his retirement, Pastor Linstrom’s great love for the church continued as he served in many important leadership roles and ministries within the church.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at 10:30 a.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church, 76 West Crystal Lake Avenue, Crystal Lake. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral service, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the church. Masks are required. Rostered ministers are invited to vest and process. The color is green.
As the church we offer our sympathy to his family and friends and because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, we rejoice in God’s promise of eternal life, comfort, and hope.
Walking with you,
The Rev. Jeffrey Clements
Northern Illinois Synod, ELCA
