"O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds. So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to all the generations to come. (Psalm 71:17-18)
More than fifty years ago, the leaders of Zion Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church made the decision that our Christian witness to the people of Lockport would be stronger together than apart. In 1965, a new congregation was birthed: Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church.
Much has changed in those fifty+ years. Lockport is no longer a small town of 5000 residents; it is now a suburb of Chicago with a population of more than 30,000. Gone are the days when every Lutheran could proudly recall their ethnic affiliation (Swedish, German, Norwegian, etc.) as something associated with their faith tradition. Today, it is likely that our neighbors are from other faith traditions and nationalities.
There are some in society that see these changes as threats. We see them as opportunities. Our call as followers of Jesus is to make known the wondrous deeds of God to all the generations to come. We pray that when you visit us you will see people and programs that God is using to do just that.
