The synods of Region 5 (the synods in Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, and the Northern Great Lakes Synod) are collaborating to present annual boundaries education for active rostered ministers. The purpose of this collaboration is, in part, to show a shared commitment to boundaries education across the region, to create and sustain professional ministry leadership in our synods, for safety in our communities of faith, and to pool our resources in an effort to offer high-quality educational events.

The collaborative boundaries education follows a three-year cycle covering Professional Boundaries, Gender Justice, and Racial Justice.

This year's course is focused on Racial Justice and is facilitated by Rhonda Hill.

Rhonda Hill is the Founder and Executive Director of Race & Faith, where she equips leaders and communities to engage race, identity, and justice through theological reflection, racial identity development, and spiritual practices. Her presentation, “The Stories We Tell,” will serve as the guiding framework for our time together and is created specifically for this event. The day will include a live opening session with Rhonda Hill, followed by video sessions for the remainder of our workshop.

All rostered ministers and synod authorized ministers serving 15 hours or more a week are expected to be present for the entire event and to engage with the material presented as fully as they are able. Anyone who cannot attend must contact Pastor Julie Monnard for make-up or alternative options. All other ministers, including those retired, on leave, or serving 15 hours or fewer a week, are also invited.

We have new locations this year! Boundaries education will be hosted at Trinity Moline, Our Savior’s Rockford, and Our Savior Sandwich. Please register for the site that works best for your needs.

Registration is now open. The cost of the event is $50. Lunch, course materials, and refreshments are all included in the registration fee. Registration will close on October 23rd.

If you have any questions about this year’s Collaborative Boundaries Education Day, please contact Pastor Julie Monnard.
