(Churchwide Assembly 2022 is scheduled for August 8 – 13, 2022 in Columbus, Ohio)
The NIS received the allocation of 13 “formula members”: those who are to meet the Synod Constitution/ELCA Constitution guidelines of 60% lay/40% rostered ministers; 45% male/45% female, allowing for 10% either non-binary or gender queer; 10% Youth/Young Adult (either confirmed through 17 years when elected or 18 – 29 when elected); 10% persons of color (POC)/ persons for whom English is not their first language. This number will consist of Bishop Clements and Minnette Scott, Synod VP, by virtue of their offices and the 8 Conference selections, leaving 3 At-Large to be elected by the Synod Assembly.
In addition, there are two non-formula members to be elected: one youth/young adult member, who usually has been a youth and one Person of Color/Person for whom English is not their first language.
In order to meet the formula requirement, the Northern Illinois Synod will limit the At Large members elected at Synod Assembly to those who fit the category of either Youth/Young Adult or People of Color/People for whom English is not their first language.
